Holbeach United beat Shirebrook Town in the FA Vase
Goalkeeper Josh Simpson was the penalty shoot-out hero as Holbeach United claimed a higher level scalp in the FA Vase on Saturday.
Simpson, deputising for the injured Brad Waters, saved the first two spot kicks of the shoot-out as the Tigers triumphed 4-1 on penalties against United Counties League Premier Division North hosts Shirebrook Town.
The match finished 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes with Holbeach having a perfect start to the second qualifying round.
They took the lead after just two minutes when Sam Carter converted a penalty before being pegged back midway through the first half as Shirebrook equalised with a Ben Southwell header.
There were no further goals for the rest of the game and the match headed to a penalty shoot-out where Simpson gave Holbeach the early initiative.
He saved the opening two penalties from the home side while Kyle Compton and Josh Ling successfully converted for the Tigers.
Jordan Keeble was next on target for Holbeach with Shirebrook scoring their third penalty which left the Tigers needing one more for victory.
And Carter duly obliged by scoring his second penalty of the game to maintain Holbeach's superb away record.
They have won all five of their matches on their travels this season in the Thurlow Nunn League Division One North and have added an FA Vase scalp to their away haul.
Deeping Rangers bowed out of the competition after a 2-0 away loss at United Counties League Premier Division North rivals Belper United.
Jack Thatcher gave the hosts a 17th minute lead before Sam Birks sealed Belper's place in the next round with a second goal with 12 minutes remaining.
Pinchbeck made it back-to-back wins for the second time this season in the Thurlow Nunn League with a 3-2 away success at Dussindale and Helleson.
All of the Knights' goals came in the first half with JJ Ward opening the scoring before their Norwich hosts levelled from the penalty spot.
Flynn Slater put Pinchbeck back in front before Logan Tate added a third goal from the penalty spot for the Knights.
Although Dussindale & Hellesdon pulled a goal back after the break, the Knights held out for victory.
Pinchbeck are in League Cup action on Tuesday night when they travel to Premier Division side Heacham for a third round tie.
