The British Open Team Championship is being staged at the Adrian Flux Arena in King's Lynn

One of the biggest team meetings in the world of national banger racing – the British Open Team Championships, better known as the Icebreaker, will open the 2023 calendar at the Adrian Flux Arena this Sunday (noon) for its 29th staging.

Around 100 unlimited bangers are booked for what is a team meeting that features up to four cars per team.

National banger team events are always full of action and this meeting has a reputation of being one of the most action-packed of the season.

Liam Waterfall will be racing with a silver roof for the first time after winning the junior banger national points last year.

Some of the biggest teams in the sport will be making the trip to compete in the championship.

The Yorkshire-based Silver Boys outfit and Team Extreme will be two of the teams tipped for major honours while the southern based Posh Wash make one of their first appearances at King’s Lynn which is eagerly anticipated.

Local interest will centre upon the performance of the Aftermath Team who will be short odds to win the Entertainer Points. Sonny Parsons and Will Cole are both part of the team.

Parsons had an outstanding 2022 in the national banger and has cemented his reputation as one of the top entertainers at King’s Lynn with superb performances every time he appears on track.

He was one of the top drivers at the micro banger teams at Christmas and, if he can transfer that form to the big cars this Sunday, his Aftermath team will be a major force to be reckoned

with.

Team-mate Cole was also in great form in the micro banger teams and it is a very rare outing for him in the bigger cars and he can be guaranteed to be adding to the entertainer points tally for the team.

James Jackson made a return to racing last month following a lay off and it did not take him long to get fully involved in the action.

It was a great to start to the season which he will be looking to continue as he returns in the Unlimited Banger Icebreaker where he will be racing for Team OMB.

The junior bangers are also in action.

The area currently has some very talented young racers and none more so than Liam Waterfall who will be racing with a silver roof for the first time after winning the 2022 national points.

Also in action will be Shane Murkin and Curtis Murkin.

Both Murkins recorded race victories in 2022 with Curtis hitting a real purple patch towards the end of the season.
