Spalding Rugby Club take on Deepings in a match played under the '555' format




Spalding Rugby Club were victorious in their first game played in a different format on Saturday.

The Elephants were 26-12 winners against Deepings at Centenary Park in a match played under the '555' format.

It featured a combined team of five colts/youths, five veterans and five other players against an established team from neighbours Deepings.

In extremely windy and occasionally wet conditions, the home side emerged winners with two tries from Tom Stevenson and one each from Ronnie Crowfoot and Sam Christie.

Callum Ferguson kicked two Spalding conversions while Christie converted his own touchdown.

There was no Counties 1 Midlands East (South) action on Saturday due to a bye weekend. Spalding travel to table-topping Stamford this weekend.
