Holbeach United beat Whitton United in the Thurlow Nunn League

Back-to-back wins have moved Holbeach United to within a point of the Thurlow Nunn League Division One North play-off places.

The Tigers followed up their 3-2 away win at FC Peterborough last Wednesday night with a 3-0 home win over Whitton United on Saturday.

They took the lead nine minutes before half-time when Callum Wright applied a tidy finish to an excellent move.

The lead was then doubled just past the hour mark through Jordan Keeble before Whitton were reduced to 10 men shortly after.

The win was then rounded off by Sam Carter converting Holbeach's third goal from the penalty spot.

It was a second successive spot kick from the Tigers skipper who had netted in the win at FC Peterborough as Holbeach quickly rediscovered their winning form on their travels.

The Tigers had suffered their first away loss of the league season after a 3-0 reversal at table-topping Haverhill Rovers last Saturday.

But they bounced back with a 3-2 midweek win for their sixth success from seven away games this season.

All of the goals came in the second half after a goalless opening period at the Millfield AutoParts Stadium.

Holbeach goalkeeper Josh Simpson had made a couple of fine saves to ensure the opening period had finished even.

A back post finish from Kyle Compton then put Holbeach in front before Carter scored from the spot after Keeble had been bundled over.

The hosts then reduced the arrears before Ryan Cook burst clear to slot his finish past the advancing home goalkeeper.

FC Peterborough then missed an open goal to cut the deficit before heading home their second goal from a corner.
