South Lincs and Border Cricket League round-up




Long Sutton suffered their first defeat of the season after being beaten by South Lincs & Border League Championship title rivals Sleaford 2nds on Saturday.

The previously unbeaten leaders went down to a narrow one-wicket home loss to their second-placed visitors at Paradise Field.

Despite opener Nathan Oliver making 72 and and Tim Norris adding 68, Sutton were dismissed for 211 inside 33 overs.

And Sleaford were able to take full advantage of their early dismissal of the table-toppers by using the extra overs allocated to secure the win.

The victory arrived in the 47th over after fine efforts in the lower order from Thomas Stephan (69) and Sumit Puri (30no).

Josh Baker took 3-40 for Long Sutton while Paul Edgeller returned an economical 2-17 from his nine overs.

Fourth-placed Moulton Harrox closed the gap on Woodhall 2nds in third spot after a five-wicket win at Bourne 2nds.

Home skipper Ben Woodward had top-scored with 63 as Bourne made 205-9 from their 45 overs after batting first.

Jamie Kitchen (3-38) and Jamie Juckes (3-31) were the leading wicket-takers for Harrox who passed their target in the 43rd over.

Openers Matt Barnett (36) and Juckes (32) gave them a solid start before Kitchen cracked six fours and three sixes in an unbeaten 81 not out.

Market Deeping 2nds lost by 30 runs in their home clash with Freiston at Outgang Road.

Lee Peacock, Ross Lowndes and Khuram Mehrban all took two wickets each as Freiston made 221-8 after batting first.

Opener Chris Jones led the Deeping reply with 67 while Dave Gillett added 35 as Deeping closed their innings on 191-9.

Baston were unable to halt the unbeaten charge of Division One leaders Burghley Park who raced to a 10-wicket win at the Shrine.

David Greenfield top-scored with 56 as Baston were bowled out for 83 by a Burghley side who needed less than 11 overs to secure the win.

Billingborough are the leaders' closest challengers after maintaining second spot with a nine-wicket win at Moulton Harrox 2nds.

The hosts were restricted to 119-5 after batting first with Joe Broomfield making 52 but Billingborough lost just one wicket in their successful run chase as Dave Newman made a half-century for the victors.

First team talisman Mitch Freeman hit an unbeaten century for Spalding 2nds in their eight-wicket win over Boston 2nds at Seas End Hall.

The visitors had made 165-7 after batting first with Tom Decamps taking 2-12 from five overs for Spalding.

Freeman then took centre stage as he thumped 19 fours and two sixes in his 122 not out with Spalding securing the win after 24 overs.

Long Sutton 2nds are matching the table-topping exploits of their first team in Division Two.

They recorded an emphatic 260-run win at Freiston 2nds on Saturday with Daniel Plant plundering an unbeaten century.

Plant smashed 12 fours and six sixes in his 101 which followed Adam Wright and Jack Baker making 78 and 76 not out respectively as Sutton scored 351-5 from their 45 overs.

Steven Milnes then produced a devastating three over spell of 4-7 as Freiston fell for 91 in their reply.

Billingborough 2nds were beaten by 55 runs against Orton Park 3rds after a high-scoring contest.

The Peterborough side made 303-4 after batting first with Billingborough closing their reply on 248-9.
