TAE KWON-DO: Andrew and Carl on top of the world
Andrew Mason and Carl Grimes celebrated success at the World Championships.
Spalding instructor Grimes has now won the men’s black belt destruction with back fist for the last four events.
He was also third in the men’s black belt power pad hand.
Mason, of Long Sutton, won the men’s red belt sparring title – despite being 56 years old in a division which has competitors from 18 years-plus.
Thirty fighting areas ran throughout two days at Birmingham, with more than 2,000 competitors, 400 officials and well over 2,000 spectators.
After months of heavy preparation, 27 students from the Mark Farnham Schools of Tae Kwon-Do took part in this tournament with pattern, sparring, destruction, power test pad and team sparring events on offer.
Farnham said: “To win any award at this event is a very serious achievement to be the best in the world.
“We gained 20 awards at the event, including eight world champions and a huge haul of medals.”
