Pinchbeck's search for first FA Vase win goes on after tough loss

Pinchbeck United failed to build on their midweek draw against Peterborough Northern Star in the Uhlsport United Counties League (UCL) Premier Division as their search for a first-ever win the FA Vase goes on.

A trip to UCL Division One side Aylestone Park should have set the Knights up for victory against Step 6 opposition.

But the hosts stormed into a three-goal lead before half-time through Tom Hill, Joseph Latham and Riley Davoile.

Pinchbeck substitute Kyle Onyon pulled a goal back with 20 minutes of the tie left before Harry Sheffield made the game safe for the Leicester-based side.

Knights' first team coach Alfie Tate said: "We didn't really maintain the levels we had against Peterborough Northern Star, or even in the second half at Wellingborough Town.

"It reminded me of the Rugby Town game and I don't know whether we got a little bit complacent.

"But our standards naturally dropped and Aylestone Park did well to punish us.

"We were poor across the park so the result and scoreline were very fair.

"For the first five minutes, we looked like we were going to control the game.

"But as things went on, we got more sloppy with the ball, Aylestone Park got a few more chances, built themselves into the game and our standards kept dropping.

"It was a bad day at the office and we'll look to see where we need to improve."

Tate had made two changes to the Knights' side that picked up a point against Northern Star on Wednesday, with Zak Dunn and Abe Sebtane coming in for Tom Siemienczuk and Joshua Jeche respectively.

Tate said: "I'm grateful that we're back training this week when we can talk about stuff and work on stuff that needs improving.

"All I'm asking now is for the players to be accountable for their performances because we can't be inconsistent by having high standards and then dropping them.

"I like to think that I'm quite positive and optimistic, but on Saturday we've not put in a good performance and not got the result."

PINCHBECK UNITED: Martin; Worthington, Mason, Auld, Kacirek; Sebtane, Armond, Neves; Daws, Dunn, Krashiqi. Subs: Eyes, Onyon, Cottingham, Burrell.
