Holbeach United striker George Frost secures a Stateside scholarship with Gillette College in Wyoming

Holbeach United striker George Frost will be swapping Carter's Park for Wyoming next season after netting a Stateside scholarship.

Frost will be playing for Gillette College next term in Division One of the National Junior College Athletic Association League.

He will move to America following the conclusion of the school year with the Peterborough United Scholarship programme which he is currently part of.

Frost is hoping to get a degree in America while also progressing his football career as far as he can.

He said: "I'm really looking forward to going out into a different environment I'm not used to and having new experiences playing football.

"I wanted to go to America as I want to challenge myself playing football in a different environment. I also liked the idea of trying something new."

Frost has already made 30 appearances for Holbeach this season in Division One North of the Thurlow Nunn League.

He has netted 16 times after combining his game-time as a regular with Posh's team on their scholarship programme.

In his first year with the League One club, Frost finished as the Posh Scholarship golden boot winner and also took a place in the Scholarship Team of the Year.

The initiative combines football with a BTEC level three in sport or A-Levels and, unique to this course, fixtures are played against both Premier League and Football League clubs with similar programmes.

Frost commented: "I think the scholarship has really benefited me as a player from training every day and analysing my games.

"The scholarship has helped me turn my weaknesses to strengths and become a much better player."

In his first year, he was selected to play in the National Football Youth League's All-Star trial alongside the best of the country's players and scholarship manager Bruno Porfirio - a former assistant boss at Spalding United - was delighted at Frost's progress.

Porfirio said: "It's brilliant that George has committed to Gillette and will be playing Division One football when he moves to America at the end of this season.

"He's developed as a player and as a person during his time on our programme and being offered an important role at Gillette is a reflection of and a reward for the effort and dedication he's put in over the last two years.

"I'm sure he'll hit the ground running out there. We're all really proud of him and would like to wish him the best of luck."

Frost and his Holbeach team-mates travel to face Whitton United on Saturday in the Thurlow Nunn League.

Spalding visit Bedworth United in the Northern Premier League while Deeping Rangers host United Counties League Premier Division North leaders Sherwood Colliery at the Haydon Whitham Stadium.

Bourne Town travel to Asfordby while Pinchbeck are without a game as their scheduled match with Lincoln United has been postponed with the Whites having a rearranged FA Vase tie.
