Spalding Indoor Bowls Club round-up




Spalding Indoor Bowls Club have secured top spot in the South Division of the Men's County League.

They travelled to play their final league fixture of the season against Boston B needing only three points to clinch pole position.

Spalding were dominant as they won 121-51 and 12-2 on match points to book a place in the county final where they will play Horncastle on Saturday, April 12, at Louth.

Top winning rink was skipped by Martin Simpson, with Tony Westland, Gavin Staite and Anthony Cronin who won 32-6.

Rink scores: Tony Westland, Gavin Staite, Anthony Cronin and Martin Simpson won 32-6; Eric Wakefield, Paul Turner, Dan Mills and Simon Lilley won 37-14; Nathan Puttrell, Robin Roffe, Chris Warboys and Brian Martin won 33-10; Nick Wilkie, James Teesdale, David Nunney and Kevin Ekins lost 19-21.

Spalding Lightning were well represented at the Ladies County semi-finals day held on Saturday at the Horncastle and District Indoor Bowls Club.

Ruby Philpott was triumphant in the singles after beating Lin Mountain (Lincoln) before joining forces with Chelsea Spencer to progress in the pairs with victory over Rachel Stanley and partner (Louth).

Philpott is also through to the Under 25 Singles final after defeating Lucy Allerton (Boston) where she will face Danielle Wild who beat Jessica Butters.

The men's and women's county finals day is at Sleaford on Sunday, April 27.
