Former Peterborough United and Hull City star Marcus Maddison wants to return to the professional game

Spalding United want to play their part in helping Marcus Maddison fulfil his desire of returning to the professional game.

The former Peterborough United and Hull City star was Spalding's stellar summer signing but his appearances in the past couple of months have been limited due to injury.

Maddison revealed this week that he was now working hard on his fitness with a view to getting back playing professionally next season.

He said: "After being out of the game due to injury and mental health, I have decided that I want to go back.

"I need to get over this injury and have seen the only man that I trust with fitness in Neal Lattimore of Active Performance.

"We are slowly going to work through my knee issues and come new year start to really work on my fitness.

"I am looking forward to the 2022/23 season wherever I end up."

In response to Maddison's plans, the Tulips said they would help the 28-year-old with his comeback bid.

They said: "Yes, he is still signed on with us and has been honest with us about his on and off the pitch challenges that he needs to address.

"We’re happy to help him however we can to get back to wherever he needs to be."
