Banger World Final takes place with Matt Black going for glory

A number of local drivers will be competing in their biggest races of the season when the 2L Banger World Final is contested at King’s Lynn this Saturday (5pm).

This race has not taken place since 2019. It was scheduled to be staged last year but the second lockdown put paid to the event being held and the drivers who are in the main race qualified for their grid positions from the latter half of 2019.

One driver who will be taking his place on the grid despite not racing since 2019 is local rocketman Matt Black.

Black actually qualified for the big race twice – once by grabbing a wildcard spot as one of the top entertainer points scorers at the 2019 2L World Qualifiers and then as part of the Predators team which scooped the most entertaining team prize in the 2019 2L Banger Norfolk Teams competition.

Black did not race in 2020 although he was planning to take his place in the world final had it been staged last year and has not yet made an appearance this season but the seasoned star of the ovals is expected to get straight back into the groove.

It will be the first big race which Black has ever qualified for and he is greatly looking forward to the experience.

Other local drivers on the grid include Callum White and Cieran Harmer.

The 2L Stock Cars are also back in action on Saturday along with the Junior Bangers.

Rowan Venni has heavily featured in the action in recent weeks including being involved in a heavy rollover at Skegness a few weeks ago and he will be looking to keep on all four wheels this Saturday.

Rob Heanes continues to get a rapid pace out of his aging machine and he can be expected to be in the top results throughout the evening while Sutton Bridge grass track racer Andrew Still will be making his first ever appearance in the formula.

Completing the action are the Junior Bangers where Ben Kaleta and Sophie Allen are amongst the entrants.

F1 Stock Car father and son duo Mark and Finn Sargent had a meeting to remember at Sheffield on Sunday.

Son Finn took the chequered flag in the consolation race and was followed across the line by father Mark in a unique family one-two.
