Bourne Town beat Lutterworth Athletic in the United Counties League Division One
Bourne Town have opened up a nine-point lead at the top of the United Counties League Division One table.
The Wakes were 3-1 away winners at Lutterworth Athletic on Saturday while second-placed Clipstone were held to a home draw by Clifton All Whites.
Josh Edmondson struck twice for Bourne on Saturday after James Hill-Seekings had put Michael Goode's side ahead from the penalty spot to kick-start a performance on Athletic's new 3G pitch which pleased the Wakes boss.
Goode said: "We were really good.
"It's a really nice facility at Lutterworth but we've been training on the 3G at Bourne for several weeks so we were used to that sort of surface.
"We've got good players who like the ball to feet when the surface is flat so it wasn't something that we were worried about.
"We played well against a good side."
Bourne began brightly and took an eighth minute lead when Zak Munton - who had an excellent game - cut inside and was brought down in the area for Hill-Seekings to score from the spot.
The Wakes had a great chance to double their lead shortly after as Will Bird broke clear but he shot straight at the home goalkeeper in a one-on-one.
Bourne continued to create opportunities but were then pegged back after 17 minutes when the ball broke in the area for Charlie Butler to equalise for the hosts.
The Wakes regained their composure and looked the more likely side to regain the lead with their second goal arriving just past the half-hour mark.
Shaun Archer got to the byline and pulled the ball back for Edmondson to slot home a tidy finish and give Bourne a half-time lead.
They were again in the ascendency after the break while having to remain alert to some lively Lutterworth attacking raids.
Substitute Henry Dunn glanced a header wide of the post while Hill-Seekings struck a shot into the side-netting.
The win was wrapped up with 19 minutes remaining as Munton rattled the post with a shot with Edmondson drilling home the rebound to seal their 16th league win of the season.
Goode added: "We were pretty convincing for most of the game but they had spells where they caused us problems.
"It was another good three points and I was really pleased that Josh got his two goals.
"He's been so patient after coming back from injury but he's waited for his chance and took it and I'm delighted for him."
Bourne are back in action at the JJ Mac Stadium on Saturday when they host sixth-placed Birstall United.
