Darts player Scott Williams to play in the Cazoo World Championships

Arrows ace Scott Williams is set to make his darting debut in the Cazoo World Championships this weekend.

Williams takes on Ryan Joyce in his first round match at the Alexandra Palace on Sunday night with the winner facing former world champion Rob Cross in the next stage.

His maiden appearance at the Professional Darts Corporation event caps a superb season for Williams who has played regularly in the Holbeach, Pinchbeck and Spalding leagues for both the Tigers Sports and Social Club and Swineshead-based Green Dragon.

Williams has topped the Challenge Tour Order of Merit this season and also became one of very few players to ever win a Pro Tour event without a Tour Card.

He made his television debut last month, recording his first televised win in the final game of the Grand Slam group stages when he defeated Ryan Searle.

Williams said: “The Grand Slam was a massive learning curve and you don’t realise how different it is until you get up on stage and see the Sky Sports logo and all the sponsors.

“I learned and got better in every game and I tried to show my real self in the last game and hopefully I can bring that to the World Championships.

“It’s been a mental year for me and, if you had said last December that I would be playing in the World Championships, I would have laughed and run off.

“I am just really pleased to be there because it was one of my goals this year.”

Williams’ match on Sunday night is the second game of the evening session which starts 8pm.
