Oakham All Saints Scout Group celebrates its first cub in 30 years gaining every activity badge
A cub scout is the first member of his pack to gain every activity badge for as long as his leader can remember.
Nathan Smith was determined to earn all 37 badges during his time with the Oakham All Saints Cub Scouts, and has even finished with six months to spare.
He joined the pack when he turned eight and has just completed his last badge and the Chief Scout’s Silver Award, which is the highest award in cubs.
Proud mum Victoria said: “Nathan set out to get all the badges but we didn’t really think he would.
“He has been so determined - we even had to buy him some et fish so he could earn the animal carer badge!”
To gain the badges Nathan, 10, has had a go at martial arts, horse riding, DIY and sewing.
Victoria said: “His confidence has soared by trying all these new things. It shows his talents beyond school work.”
Nathan, a pupil at Brooke Hill Academy in Oakham, has another six months at cubs before he is old enough to move up to scouts.
He has already set his sights on gaining 50 out of the 61 scout badges up for grabs.
Cub leader Keith Law said: "In my 30 years as a leader, Nathan is the first cub to achieve all 37 badges.
"To fit them in around everything else he does is an absolutely amazing achievement.
"It requires a lot of hard work to finish them all."
