Rutland church lead theft inspires Uppingham Jazz and Soul Band's next concert

Uppingham Jazz and Soul Band will perform a fundraising concert in aid of Glaston Church.

Money raised will go towards replacing lead on the roof which was stolen in May.

Volunteers have temporarily fixed the roof with plastic sheeting but need to raise £50,000 for proper repairs.

Glaston Parish Council, the village hall committee and other groups have started fundraising and now the band has stepped up to help.

Band leader Tony Gray said: “I was angry and upset by the theft and as a local I wondered what I could do to help, then it was obvious. The band could play a gig.

"We’re a community band which over the years has supported many good causes in Rutland, and almost before I’d finished telling them what had happened, the band had agreed to play to raise funds for the new roof.”

The concert takes place at St Peter and St Paul's Church, Uppingham, on Saturday, July 27 at 7pm. Tickets cost £10.
