Oakham escape room will open in Long Row next week

A science teacher is taking her skills out of the classroom and into her own escape room experience.

Tessa Angell will open the doors to One Way Out Escape Rooms in Oakham next week.

The attraction will challenge teams to solve a series of puzzles to successfully escape their chosen room within an hour.

Tessa was inspired to take on a new challenge after the headteacher of her former school in Leicester encouraged pupils to seize opportunities and step out of their comfort zone.

The family then played an escape room in Cornwall last summer and everything fell into place.

She said: “I loved the challenge. It felt as though my whole life had been building up to this moment.

“Having lived in Rutland for most of my life I was really keen to give something back after finishing my teaching career."

One Way Out will open next Friday (July 19)

Its first room is called Gas Alert.

Teams of between two and eight players will have an hour to find an antidote for poison split in Professor Wotamesser’s evil lab.

A second murder mystery room will open at the site in Long Row next month.

The business venture is a family affair with Tessa's husband Geoff setting up the CCTV and microphones, son Freddy taking care of the website and daughter Molly reducing her hours as a midwife to become a game master.

They hope the attraction will be popular with families and for corporate team building events.

Tessa said: "We're aiming for fun.

"There might be a few surprises to make people jump, but nothing too scary and we won't actually lock the doors so people don't need to worry about that.

"Our game testers have enjoyed it so we're now looking forward to opening."
