A good time to join Rutland Morris Men
As the new year gets into full swing, there has never been a better time to join Rutland Morris Men!
That’s the message from the popular group, which discussed plans for 2015 and reviewed its activities over the previous year at its most recent annual general meeting.
Last year, Rutland Morris had 54 dancing occasions and celebrated their 40th anniversary.
At the meeting, the group decided to donate any surplus income over its usual expenditure to a local charity and is making enquiries to find a suitable good cause.
Their 2015 plans include trips to Wales and Normandy, as well as visiting as many villages in Rutland as they can.
As this is the beginning of their practice season they would welcome new members.
The group’s “squire” Mike McWhinnie said: “ We continue to hold our own as regards numbers, but would really welcome some new blood.
“We can guarantee good times with some energetic practice, excellent socialising, and a real sense of satisfaction in keeping alive a tradition and a central part of English culture that has at least 500 years of recorded history.”
Rutland Morris Men practice in Preston Village Hall on Monday nights from 8.30pm to 10pm.
Contacts and more information about the Rutland Morris can be found on the extensive website www.morrismen.org.uk.
Potential dancers and musicians would also be made be very welcome.
