Plans for new footpath near Elsea Park in Bourne
Plans for a new footpath on a busy town road are one step closer.
The Elsea Park Community Trust and Lincolnshire County Council’s highways department are in the early stages of plans to create a new footpath in Bourne.
It would link Welland Drive to the junction of Westwood Drive, which only has a complete footpath on one side.
Currently pedestrians from the estate wanting to walk into Bourne have to cross the busy road or walk along a narrow grass verge to get to a crossing further down.
Jono Brough, chairman of the Elsea Park Community Trust, said: “Currently there’s no safe pedestrian access out of Bourne Heights and part of Elsea
Park.
“It has been something we have been trying to resolve for several years.
Since moving in residents have been unhappy that developers did not construct a footpath and branded it as 'an accident waiting to happen'.
The developer previously explained that the proposed footpath was not built as the land was owned by a third-party so outside its control.
Jono will meet with a highways officer next week and is going to push to make sure that the footpath is tarmacked.
He said: “It has taken a long time and a lot of dialogue with Lincolnshire County Council.
“Covid put a bit of a delay on it.”
With Aldi announcing plans to build a store in Bourne the trust will also push for a zebra crossing to be installed near Elsea Park and for changes to the speed limit on the A151 coming into the town.
