Rutland Fairtrade Forum discuss climate change and send letter to Alicia Kearns, Conservative MP for Rutland
A small voluntary group which aims to raise awareness on Fairtrade and climate change held a Big Brew event as part of Fairtrade Fortnight.
Rutland Fairtrade Forum addressed a crowd of 50 people on the links between climate change and Fairtrade on Saturday (February 26).
Visitors watched a film about the impact of global warming on developing countries, and were treated to a quiz towards the end of the event.
David Lewis, chairman of Rutland Fairtrade Forum, said: “A lot of people were interested and not aware of the links between climate change and Fairtrade.
“It is hugely important to keep talking about it. While other issues go on, climate change still requires urgent action.”
Cakes and refreshments were available for people to purchase which raised about £200 for Traidcraft Exchange.
Rutland Fairtrade Forum has contacted Alicia Kearns, Conservative MP for Rutland, urging her to raise the topic of climate change in the House of Commons.
Thirty five people signed the letter during the event.
