Langham-based Global Adventure to deliver community care packages to vulnerable people in Stamford and Rutland thanks to National Lottery funding

A charity that specialises in taking families on outdoor expeditions is now helping vulnerable people weather the Covid-19 storm.

Global Adventure, based in Langham, has received funding from the National Lottery to deliver community care packages in the Rutland and Stamford area.

The bags consist of essential items such as groceries, cleaning supplies, toiletries and other goodies.

Project director Dave Hearn said: “Our primary audience are our elderly neighbours who are self-isolating in an attempt to stay healthy during the lockdown but we also want to support families with young children or others that find themselves struggling.”

Using a network of volunteers around England, Global Adventure hopes to distribute to over 200 homes and provide a friendly, socially-distanced smile and wellness check.

The second part of the project, which will hopefully launch this autumn, will include information and training to help community volunteers prepare for any future crises.

Dave added: “Normally, the volunteers and members of Global Adventure would be participating in outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, caving and climbing, working with families and specifically men in need of connection.

“However, since the coronavirus lockdown has cancelled events this spring and summer, we still want to serve our communities in some way.”
