Owner of Sunset Beach tanning shop to open Another Salon above business in North Street, Stamford

A hairdresser with decades of experience is opening a salon in town.

With people always commenting about the number of salons in Stamford, business owner Amanda McCulloch will use this as free advertising for Another Salon.

Based in Chapel Yard, North Street, from Friday (March 24) Another Salon will be home to three new hair stylists and a beautician.

"I'm nervous but also ready to start," said the 48-year-old.

"It is exciting and there has been a lot of support."

Amanda, who has been a hairdresser since she left college, took over Sunset Beach tanning salon in Chapel Yard in 2019 after the then-owners retired.

She continued offering cuts, colours and styling from a room in the tanning salon but when the space upstairs became available Amanda jumped at the chance to expand admitting she had outgrown where she was.

The space inside Sunset Beach she has been using for hair will be home to an extra tanning bed.

For the past two months Amanda has been refurbishing the upstairs space, which was formerly a photography studio.

"It is an ideal space for a hairdressers," she said. "It is a beautiful room and I had a vision of where I could take it and what could be done with it."

Despite acknowledging it is 'another salon' in a town with dozens of hairdressers already with the tongue in cheek name, Amanda says there is a growing population and each stylist has their own clients.

With a passion for hair and beauty, she is confident there is a big enough client base for all of the salons in town.

The Stamford resident said: "In a time when prices are going up people will always find money for self-care.

"It makes you feel amazing when you know your client is walking out on cloud nine."

Demands are consistently changing for hairdressers with new trends so Amanda plans for her and the stylists to be kept up-to-date and learn through courses.
