Founder of the Osprey Leadership Foundation Dr Tim Mackrill is nominated for a Birders' Choice Award following his dedication to the osprey project at Rutland Water




A conservationist is in the running for an international award.

Dr Tim Mackrill could be named Conservation Hero Of The Year in the Birders’ Choice Awards 2018.

He led the osprey project at Rutland Water for 10 years and has launched the Osprey Leadership Foundation to encourage more young people to get involved in conservation projects along the ospreys’ migratory route from the UK to Gambia.

Tim, of Stamford, said: "It’s really nice to get some recognition. I’m quite surprised to be on the list because there are some really fantastic conservationists on it.”

The other finalists are the Icelandic prime minister for his review of whaling and campaigners against the persecution of birds of prey, plastic in the Pacific Ocean and driven grouse shooting.
