Explaining the Uppingham closure, Joe Appleton, community banking director for Barclays, said: “The way customers undertake their banking is changing as people increasingly use online, telephone and mobile devices.

"At Barclays Uppingham branch, customer usage has continued to fall (-17 per cent) and 79 per cent of our customers now use telephone and online banking, which is why we have taken the difficult decision to close it.

"We hope that the availability of our Barclays branch at 10 High Street, Oakham, as well as access to services at the local Post Office at Market Place, Uppingham, along with our range of digital channels, will help to ease the transition for our customers.”

Commenting on the Market Deeping branch closure, Terry Staff, community banking director for Barclays Cambridgeshire said: "At the branch in Market Deeping, customer usage has continued to decline and more than 82 per cent of the customers of the branch are already using online, mobile or telephone banking.

"We hope that the availability of the branches in Millfield, Peterborough, Stamford and Church Street, Peterborough and access to services at the nearby Post Office in 88 Church Street, Market Deeping, along with our range of digital channels will help to ease the transition for our customers.”
