Episode of BBC programme Bargain Hunt which was filmed at Stamford Meadows and Grimsthorpe Castle to be screened on Friday March 1

An antiques programme which was filmed in Stamford and Bourne will be screened tomorrow (March 1).

Bargain Hunt presenter Natasha Raskin-Sharp and the production team filmed during a Field Dog Fairs event in Stamford last August.

The team also stopped off at Grimsthorpe Castle to learn more about its royal collection.

Grimsthorpe Castle’s access manager Ray Briggs was thrilled to showcase the castle’s collection to a new audience.

He explained: “The Willoughby family shares the title of Lord Great Chamberlain, the monarch’s representative in government.

“One of the perks is that they can apply to collect objects that had belonged to earlier monarchs.”

Among the collection at Grimsthorpe is the table which Queen Victoria sat at to sign her succession oath along with thrones belonging to herself and Prince Albert.

Mr Briggs said: “The producers were really interested to come and see our collection.

“At one point in history there was a huge fire at the Houses of Parliament and lots of things were lost, but because items like this came to Grimsthorpe they were saved.

“It’s great to be given an opportunity to talk to people about the wonderful things we keep within these walls.”

The main part of the Bargain Hunt programme was filmed at Stamford Meadows during a three-day antiques fair hosted by the Newark-based company Field Dog Fairs.

The programme pitches two teams against each other.

Each pair is given £300 to spend on antiques and they have an hour to buy three items with the aim of making as much profit as possible when selling them on at auction.

The antiques experts on hand to help them during the Stamford event were Mark Stacey and Gary Pe.

The episode will be screened on BBC1 tomorrow (March 1) at 12.15pm.

It will then be repeated on BBC2 on Tuesday at 6.30pm and will also be available to view on the BBC iPlayer.
