Rutland Choral Society holds Summer concert in All Saints Church, Oakham
Haunting classics, lullabies, folk songs and even a Beatles song entertained an audience at All Saints Parish Church in Oakham on Saturday evening (July 13).
Rutland Choral Society's summer concert comprised a programme of music including Bob Chilcott's Like a Singing Bird and the Lily and the Rose, Eric Whitacre's The Seal Lullaby, and John Rutter's A Sprig of Thyme.
Meanwhile, the Chamber Choir's songs included Sleep by Eric Whitacre, the hauntingly beautiful Quanta Qualia by Patrick Hawes and the witty 'O No John!' arranged by Cecilia McDowell, which proved to be a real crowd-pleaser.
Musical director Caroline Trutz sang a stunning soprano solo, Paul Butler played a piano solo entitled Rosemary by Frank Bridge and the talented Eliza Cohen Gregory, aged 15, sang Bonny at Morn by Benjamin Britten.
The concert ended with the audience joining in an enthusiastic rendition of The Beatles' When I’m Sixty Four, which raised the roof.
