Exton Hall opened in aid of National Gardens Scheme

Exton Hall Park and Gardens was opened yesterday (Sunday, May 12) and while raising money for charity it also reconnected three friends.

Zara Campden, Lucy Hurst and Sally Killick became friends when they met studying the RHS Level 2 course in Horticulture at Brooksby College.

Lucy and Sally went on to study garden design and Sally set up Cornflower Blue Gardens. Meanwhile, Zara moved into Exton Hall with her husband Harry and, as Sally and Lucy became county organisers for the Rutland National Gardens Scheme, the three teamed up again for Exton Hall’s opening.

More than 1,235 people attended, including many children, who delighted in the opportunity to explore the beautiful park and grounds.

The event raised more than £6,000 for the National Garden Scheme’s charities, which are all in aid of health or gardening charities.

Money raised for serving teas will also go to the Gurkha Welfare Trust in memory of Exton’s much loved head gardener, Ramesh Gurung, who suddenly died last year.

Organisers thanked the volunteers who made the event possible by serving teas, baking cakes, gate helpers and parking cars.
