Kind-hearted bikers from a Rutland club have raised £1,000 to hand over to two air ambulance charities.

Members of the Rutland Chapter Harley Owners’ Group handed over two cheques of £500 to the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance and the East Anglian Air Ambulance during one of their monthly social evenings at the Country Lounge Cafe Bar in Morcott on Wednesday last week.

The cheques were presented to John Batty from the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance and Tammy Swiderski from East Anglian Air Ambulance by chapter director, Mike Grant.

“Of course, riding motorcycles can be quite dangerous and the air ambulance offers a vital and invaluable service,” said Ian Gornell, activities officer for the chapter.

“We are very safety conscious as an organisation but you just never know.

“This year we upped the money to £1,000.

“All the money is raised from the members so the money comes directly from themselves.

“It costs a huge amount of money to run the Air Ambulance and one of our members did some rough working out that it costs two to three million a year.”

The Rutland Chapter of the Harley Owners’ Group go on regular rides to both British and European destinations, including Prague and the Isle of Wight.

They also organise the annual Christmas toy and Easter egg runs.
