Rutland schoolboy raises money for the NHS by getting a grandad haircut from his dad
A schoolboy has been given a glimpse into his future by getting a "grandad haircut" to raise money for the NHS.
Billy Roberts was given the trademark cut by his dad Jim who joked that his son will inevitably inherit the look one day as baldness runs in the family.
The 12-year-old agreed to maintain his new hairstyle for a week if he could raise £500 for the NHS.
His total has now reached £675.
Jim said: "Billy likes to make people laugh so he didn't take a lot of persuading. We thought it would be a great way to raise some money.
"I don't think it will start a new trend but his friends think it's quite funny!"
Jim came up with the idea while scrolling through Facebook.
He came across a picture of a toddler with a grandad cut alongside a suggestion that parents could use it as a way to keep teenagers indoors during lockdown as they would be too embarrassed to go out.
Thankfully Billy hasn't had to be bribed to stay at home so the Cottesmore family were able to use his cut as a way to help other people.
Billy, a pupil at Catmose College in Oakham, has been showing off his haircut during his daily exercise and to friends on Instagram.
Jim and his wife Sarah have been amazed by the support Billy has received.
Jim said: "We owe it to the NHS to do our bit."
