Bloor Homes has submitted revised plans to build 75 new homes in Uppingham.

The developer carried out a public consultation on its proposals to build on land south of Leicester Road last year, and a number of changes have been made in response to feedback from the community.

A new outline planning application has been submitted to Rutland County Council, replacing the previous application made in May last year.

The proposed development will provide a range of house-types including detached, semi-detached and terraced properties as well as two bungalows, offering a choice from two-bedroom starter homes to larger five-bedroom executive houses.

A third of the homes - 23 - will be provided as affordable housing for rent or shared ownership.

The land is earmarked for housing in the Uppingham Neighbourhood Plan.

Strategic planning manager for Bloor Homes Max Whitehead said: “Our proposed development will help meet Rutland Council’s need for new housing by delivering a range of high quality homes on land which is recognised in Uppingham’s Neighbourhood Plan as a suitable location for residential development.

“Whilst our consultations showed that there was general support for our proposals, we decided that there could be some improvements and therefore had a rethink of our plans.

“We believe the new application addresses all of the issues raised and will deliver a scheme which will be of great benefit to the town and its residents.”

The changes include a revised layout to reflect the existing frontage along Leicester Road, with large houses facing the road, and a series of crescents, closes and small clusters of homes to create variety across the development.

The community open space has been moved to a more central position, with a wide arc of green open space featuring a small shallow pond and children’s playground.

Plans to install a new roundabout junction on Leicester Road to access the site have been put on hold as the proposed development of additional houses to the north will not come forward for some years. Instead, it has been decided to create a single access junction, with land safeguarded for the creation of a roundabout in the future.

Bloor has sent a newsletter to households and businesses in the town this week informing them of the changes.
