Behind the scenes at Three Counties Dog Rescue

Gyll Mauchline of Three Counties Dog Rescue explains the services the charity has to offer.

We gained our licence to board dogs back in November 2020.

In the last year our boarding fees have brought in close to £25,000 after deducting VAT and not allowing for the cost of dog food. Many of the boardings have been for short periods but with the holiday season on the horizon we anticipate getting more longer term bookings. This income has helped towards meeting the costs of running the rescue which are in the region of £200,000 every year with veterinary costs making up a significant portion.

One of the requirements for providing boarding facilities is that we have to be licensed. Last week we had a visit from the local authority team to carry out an inspection as our licence was due for renewal. We aim to keep the kennels in top condition all the time but a final check was performed in anticipation of the visit. In the event the visit was concentrated on ensuring all our procedures met the standards required and that we had procedures covering all aspects of the boarding regulations. The visit lasted nearly three hours but at the end we were permitted to continue boarding for another two years.

We are licensed to board 30 dogs and usually have capacity to accept bookings. If you would like to make a reservation you can email to info@threecountiesdogrescue.org or phone us on 077085 89792.

We also provide a caring cremation service if you are unfortunate enough to lose your companion pet. If you phone us on the same number we can make the necessary arrangements with you.

The next day we were busy again as Burghley Vets were visiting us for their regular visit to check on the dogs and cats in our care. It is also an opportunity to vaccinate and microchip all the newcomers.

All this has to be done alongside our regular feeding, exercising cleaning routines.

So when you try to call us and can’t get through you can appreciate why you have to leave a message and number so we can call you back when we find time.
