The Cecils book looks at the life of Lord Burghley
Was Lord Burghley really as ruthless as he was made out to be?
That’s one of the questions answered by author David Lee in his book entitled The Cecils: The Dynasty and Legacy of Lord Burghley.
William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley, of Burghley House near Stamford, had political influence on state matters and a close bond with Queen Elizabeth I.
His self-sacrifice in his service to the state and crown are examined in the book, as is the life and career of William’s youngest son Robert, Earl of Salisbury.
He also became Elizabeth’s chief minister and served her equally to, if not more ruthlessly than his father.
David Lee is an Irish historian who has written a book about Elizabeth I, and article for Tudor Life Magazine.
The Cecils is published in hardback by Pen and Sword History and is priced £25. It is also available on Amazon as a Kindle edition for £7.99.
