Brass band to play at concert in aid of cancer charity

The PLC Brass ensemble is staging a concert to raise funds for the Leicestershire and Rutland cancer charity, Hope Against Cancer.

The event at All Saints Church in Oakham, on Friday, June 5 will start from 7.30pm.

The group draws its players from around the Midlands and performs a wide range of repertoire, everything from Baroque to the Bangles, to ensure they appeal to the widest possible audience.

Founder member and trumpet player Peter Collins said: “We were thrilled to be asked to put on a concert for Hope Against Cancer – it’s an incredibly important local charity and we are proud to be supporting the vital work they do.

“We love playing a diverse range of music and have performed far and wide around the UK and abroad. This concert will be a particular pleasure for us though as we are playing in front of a home crowd.

“The majority of our players are from Leicestershire or Rutland, and that’s what makes Hope Against Cancer a cause we all really want to support.”

PLC Brass is also joined on stage by the Rutland Singers, which is part of the Rutland Choral Society. They will be performing popular songs from their shows along with some well known folk music.

Hope Against Cancer was set up in 2003 to increase the funds available for cancer research in Leicestershire and Rutland and make clinical trials more available to local people. Surveys demonstrate that when patients with cancer are treated at cancer centres and units carrying out research, outcomes are significantly improved.
