Sprinter James Dasaolu visited Leighfield Primary School in Uppingham

Pupils were treated to a day of fun and inspiration from an Olympian sprinter.

Sub-10 second 100m runner James Dasaolu started the day at Leighfield Primary School in Newtown Road, Uppingham, with an assembly.

Dressed in his Team GB tracksuit, James told pupils about highlights of his career, including winning a European gold and racing against Usain Bolt in the Olympics. Some pupils were given the opportunity to try on James’ gold medal.

During the day, each class was involved in a workshop led by James, which included a fitness workout, relay techniques and of sprinting.

James, the second fastest Briton of all time, was challenged to a race by some of the children and despite giving them a head start, James zoomed past them, amazing them with how fast he could run.

James answered pupils’ questions, signed autographs, and gave tips for sports day.

Teacher Adele Darlington said James had brought a real buzz to the school and their children were all busy practising their running during break times with the hope of sprinting like James when they grow up.
