Davidsons Homes starts construction work on 84 homes at Uppingham Road, Oakham

Construction has started on a development of 84 new homes.

The site off Uppingham Road in Oakham, Davidsons Homes received approval for its plans for the development, which will include 25 affordable homes.

The development will be accessed from a new T-junction on Uppingham Road, with footpaths either side of the new road.

Contributions to support education, health and other needs worth nearly £1 million will be made by the developer through Community Infrastructure Levy.

Simon Tyler, sales director for Davidsons Homes South, said: “Rutland is a beautiful part of the country and we’re very pleased to be building homes here which will reflect the existing architecture in the area."

He added that they are using local stone to match other homes in the Oakham area.

“It’s important of course that we don’t just build new homes, but the associated infrastructure to support those homes," he said.

"That’s why the development will also consist of a new ‘village green’ and a balancing pond which will create a haven for local wildlife.

"Along with that, there will be an attractive play area and areas of green open space dotted throughout the site.

"These, along with key buildings, will give a real sense of place."

He said the company's ethos is to "create communities".

“As well as that, we’ll be providing 25 new affordable homes for the area, which will give young and local people an opportunity to get onto the property ladder," he said.

"The site is very well connected to the town, so this will also be an ideal location for many.

“Our plans are progressing well, and we have now begun building work on the site.

"We’ll release details on our website as soon as they become available, so we urge anyone who may be interested to keep visiting to be among the first to receive information.”
