Burst water pipe in Sheepmarket, Stamford, causes flooding at Colin Bell Menswear

A shop cellar has been flooded after a water pipe burst in cold weather.

Owner Nicholas Elson arrived at Colin Bell Menswear in Stamford this morning (Wednesday) to find the cellar under a foot of water.

A small amount of stock was damaged, along with fixtures and fittings.

Anglian Water staff were called to Sheepmarket at 7.20am to carry out repairs.

Nicholas said: "I don't suppose we'll take much money today while the repairs are carried out, and we'll probably have to close for a day while the water is pumped away."

Eighteen neighbouring properties suffered low water pressure or had no water at all.

The supply was restored by 1pm.

A spokesman for Anglian Water said the burst pipe "was likely caused by the ground contracting as temperatures plummeted".
