Uppingham First considers using the Uppingham Hopper to transport people to Oakham when Barclays closes and leaves the town without a bank
Volunteers who run the Uppingham Hopper bus service are looking at ways to help people when Barclays closes.
Uppingham’s only bank will close on April 26, leaving people to use the post office services or travel out of town for their banking.
Uppingham First has suggested a weekly hopper service to Oakham to allow people to access facilities there.
The idea is due to be discussed at Uppingham’s neighbourhood forum on Thursday (January 31) alongside a presentation on what banking services the post office can provide.
Spokesman Ron Simpson said: “For some of us the bank closing is a nuisance but for others it makes banking impossible. If people think a hopper service is a good idea, we’ll look into it some more.”
The meeting takes place at the Falcon Hotel, Uppingham, at 7.30pm.
There will also be an update on policing and the chance for the public to discuss any other concerns.
