Car crashes through window of Twelve All Saints Place in Stamford, injuring people inside




A car has crashed into the front window of a bar leaving several people injured.

The crash happened at just after 8pm on Thursday (December 19) at Twelve All Saints wine bar in Stamford.

A man in his 70s was driving the Peugeot 2008 and is believed to have fallen ill at the wheel. He suffered minor injuries as a result of the impact.

A woman who was not in the car was also injured and remains in hospital this morning (Friday). Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Others, who had been drinking in the bar, were treated for their injuries at the scene.

People who were out in Stamford town centre helped to lift the car up and out of the window to release two women who were trapped beneath.

Three ambulances, three police cars and a police van were at the scene to help people involved, as well as a crew of Stamford firefighters.

The window of Twelve All Saints was completely smashed through and brickwork from the building was lying inside the bar.

Police at the scene said they would investigate the causes of the crash. No arrests have been made.

The following morning (Friday, December 20) the front of Twelve All Saints was boarded up.

In a statement on social media, a spokesman for Twelve All Saints said: "We would just like to thank everyone who was at the bar last night or in Stamford in general for an incredible response to an awful accident.

"Our thoughts lie solely with those injured and we wish everybody a speedy recovery. Also a huge thank you to the emergency services who attended.

"We are closed today and will keep you updated when we know more."
