Belton House Care Home is rated 'inadequate' by Care Quality Commission
A care home has been put into special measures after an inspection found its services to be unsafe and ineffective.
The owner of Belton House Care Home has been given 12 months to turn things around before the Care Quality Commission (CQC) considers further action.
Sonia Ghai has appointed a new manager and consultant to address the issues raised during an inspection two months ago.
She said: “We are going above and beyond and now have a consultant in place to support the manager so things are done faster and better.
“We are taking the report seriously and want things at the home to improve.
“Most of our action plan has already been addressed so we hope the CQC will come back soon to see the improvements.”
The inspection took place in August and resulted in an overall rating of 'inadequate'.
The inspectors concluded that the service at the home, based in Littleworth Lane, Belton-in-Rutland, is not safe, effective or well led.
The home was rated as good for being caring and responsive.
Inspectors found that people were “not supported safely” and care plans “did not contain sufficient information” to help staff care for people’s specific needs.
During their visit, inspectors were particularly concerned that they had to intervene twice - once when a resident began to undress in a communal area and again when someone became distressed but received no support from staff.
Further observations found that medication was administered after being dropped on the floor, one person’s room had soiled flooring and another resident’s bed had been re-made using soiled sheets.
As a result of being put into special measures, the home will be kept under review and reinspected within six months.
If any area of its work remains inadequate, the CQC will take further action, which could lead to the owner losing their registration.
Mrs Ghai said: “We now have a manager who is passionate about the home and we are supporting her with the consultant.
“It’s very hard when a home goes into special measures but we’re working to fix it. I do care and I’m doing my best.
“Our families are very happy with the new manager and feel assured their their loves ones are being cared for.
“An inspection is just a snapshot and the home is not the same place now that it was in August.”
