Carpenter John to the rescue
A village scout group is singing the praises of a kind hearted tradesman who came to the rescue when their scout hut was left insecure due to a faulty door.
John Ashby of Concept Carpentry and Building in nearby Swinstead responded immediately to a Facebook plea for help from Billingborough and Horbling Scout Group.
Within 24 hours of the plea being posted he had repaired the door and made the scout hut secure. But more than that, he also offered to replace the door with something stronger and more robust, and all at his own expense.
Cub and scout section leader Helen Robinson said: “Our scout hut was left open to the elements due to a fault with a door and I turned to Facebook asking for support from the local community to see if anyone could help us correct the problem.
“The same day I received a call from John, who very kindly offered to come and repair our door and get the building secure.
“John came the next day, repaired the door and took measurements at the same time. He said he would like to help us obtain a brand new door which is more robust, secure and up to date.”
Helen added: “Our scout group, like most, is run by volunteers and the only income we have is from subscriptions, fundraising and donations.
“After the usual utility bills this does not leave much for high cost maintenance fees and improvements for our building and so to be helped out by John in our time of need for free is nothing short of amazing and very much appreciated.
“In the busy world we live in it is wonderful to receive support from kind individuals and businesses who are prepared to go the extra mile to support voluntary organisations like the Scouts.
“On behalf of all the leaders and young people from Billingborough and Horbling Scout Group, I would like to express our gratitude and thanks to John.”
