Brudenell Playing Fields in Baston get a makeover thanks to donations from Baston Events and The Plowright Trust

Volunteers have added the finishing touches to improved access at their village playing fields.

Donations totalling £20,000 have been ploughed into the work at Brudenell Playing Fields in Baston.

Harris Road Contractors were drafted in to resurface the driveway and car park which had needed attention for some time due to bad weather causing more potholes.

Volunteers and trustees were then given the task of sowing grass seed to get the area ready for the Spring.

Volunteer Doug Balderson, who is part of the management committee, said: "As a public amenity the playing fields are used regularly by the parish council. WI, guides and toddler group.

"The wet weather meant the access has needed attention for some time and two generous donations from the village has allowed us to do this work, so it should now be fit for purpose."

The money came from The Plowright Trust and Baston Events, which hosts the village fete and fireworks display to raise money for the village.

Doug said: "Without these generous donations we wouldn't have been able to carry out this work."

The playing fields and village hall in Baston belong to the villagers.

In 1966 the Brudenell Playing Fields Management Committee was established to manage the facilities on behalf of the village.

The next big event to take place at the playing fields will be the Baston village fete on Sunday, June 14.
