Girls Just Wanna have fun concert held at Stamford Endowed Schools for Peterborough Women’s Aid
A ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ concert celebrated women in music.
The event was held by singer-songwriter and Year 13 Stamford Endowed Schools pupil, Chloe Lorentzen on Wednesday last week (July 5).
Over the past year, Chloe worked with female pupils across Years 7 to 12, helping them form bands and write original songs.
Each band performed hits by famous female artists as well as premiering their own self-penned tracks in the concert at Stamford School.
Chloe was inspired to hold the event after learning of how under-represented women are in the music industry, where only a fraction of festival slots are given to female artists and the vast majority of producers, engineers and promoters are male.
She said: “I’m 18, just starting out on my music career and I’ve already had doors closed on me, and it’s never about ability.
“I felt it was important to empower young girls and help them believe they can overcome anything and achieve things they thought weren’t possible.
“Their performances were incredible and the atmosphere was amazing. I hope the girls take their new self-belief forward.”
Vicky Buckman headteacher praised the pupils and said she hopes the school can continue with the concerts.
The event raised more than £1,300 for Peterborough Women’s Aid, which offers life-saving frontline services and aims to stop gender-based violence.
