Chaos on A1 near Stamford after two accidents on opposite sides of the carriageway

There’s chaos on the A1 near Stamford after accidents at the same spot this afternoon, Friday November 20.

Police were called at 2.10pm to reports of an overturned pick-up truck. There were two people trapped but they managed to free themselves before fire crews arrived.

Later, a Ford Ka also crashed into the barrier on the southbound carriageway, near to the first crash. The female driver had minor injuries but was able to get out of the car before police, firefighters and ambulance crews arrived at the scene.

The accident caused an 11 mile queue back to Peterborough.

It is the second closure of the A1 today following an earlier collision.
