Charities urge people who have had a lockdown clear out to donate their items when shops are able to reopen

Charities are preparing to reopen some of their shops in a bid to claw back the money lost during lockdown.

People are urged to hold on to unwanted items and donate them to the shops when they open.

Three Counties Dog Rescue could be ready to open its shop on June 15. The charity has missed out on around £900 a week since closing.

Gyll Mauchline said: “It has had a big impact on our finances because it’s one of our main fundraisers. We won’t be able to have as much stock in the shop because of the space needed for social distancing.”

Donations to all charity shops will be quarantined for 72 hours before going on sale.

Shoppers will need to social distance and won't be allowed to try on any clothing.

Age UK plans to open some shops from June 15 but locations are still to be confirmed.

The Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance opened its home store in Cold Overton Road, Oakham, on Monday but has not confirmed an opening date for its High Street branch.
