Employee at The Queen's Head in Bulwick short-listed for pub chef of the year

The talent of a Stamford chef has been recognised through being short-listed for a hospitality industry award.

Danny Exton, who is currently working at The Queen’s Head in Bulwick, is one of five final nominees to be short-listed for pub chef of the year at the Pub Awards.

The awards seek to recognise the passion of those who drive the hospitality industry forward and is the only UK event that brings the whole pub community together in one place.

James Trevor, who runs The Queen’s Head pub in Bulwick, said: “The awards are open to every pub in the UK and seek to champion the best pubs, so we’re pretty proud and delighted with the recognition.”

Danny, 34, has been the head chef since the pub reopened in November 2018.

James said: “The pub has been restored to its glory days with Danny’s food being the focal point of the burgeoning business.”

Danny is well known for his Napoli style pizzas and has forged a relationship with local shoots, such as one based at Laxton, to bring game to the table.

He began his culinary career at Fratellis restaurant, before working at Jim’s Yard in Stamford and at The Six Bells in Witham-On-The-Hill.

Hi current boss, James, added: “I’m delighted for him.

“It’s the first head chef job he’s had.

“Danny was surprised to be short-listed as the competition is pretty fierce.

“Certain pubs are esteemed nationally and we are new, so he was very proud.”

Half of the vote for the winner is cast by well-established members of the hospitality business and the other half of the votes are made by people across the country.

The awards ceremony will be taking place at the Pub20 show on February 4 at Olympia in London.
