Christmas decorations shine bright at The George Hotel in Stamford despite start of spring
While most people put away their Christmas decorations on the Twelfth Night, a Stamford hotel is still looking as festive as ever.
Despite daffodils beginning to come into bloom, decorations adorning The George Hotel in Stamford are being kept up - and the lights on too - to ‘spread joy to people passing by’.
Owner Lawrence Hoskins said: “We did it to keep the idea that The George is still alive.
“Other places have left their decorations up - I think it’s fun.
“There is an old wives’ tale that you receive bad luck but we don’t seem to be getting it.”
His wife, Andrea, added: “There is no rush to do it. We have had an awful lot of nice comments because it makes people smile.
“If people are angry, I feel quite sorry for them because there are more important things going on.”
During the lockdown, take-out meals have been available from The George and so staff are turning on the Christmas lights within the hotel to mimic the usual busy atmosphere. The trees outside are also lit up.
Andrea said: “It has never been about Christmas specifically; they are just twinkling lights on pine trees. We need them to bring a little frivolity, joy and lightness to a town waiting to reawaken.”
Staff plan to take some of the decorations down after Mother’s Day.
