Bourne care home residents to move from Chevington House to new Harrington House Care Home

A care home which closed after fire safety concerns is to be reopened next week under new ownership after an extensive revamp.

The Wellbeing Care Group is to transfer all 14 residents from its Chevington House care home the short distance across Bourne to the former Qu’Appelle Care Home in Harrington Street.

The move to Harrington House Care Home will take place on Monday, and the home will be officially opened on Friday (September 30).

The group bought the site after Qu’Appelle closed last September when Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue raised serious safety concerns.

Four months earlier, Qu’Appelle had been placed in special measures by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for the second time in three years.

After its sale, work began on renovating the site to replace Chevington House.

The new base can house up to 40 residents, more than double Chevington’s capacity of 17.

“It’s the end of an era, but the start of a bright new one at Harrington House,” said care home manager Karen Dale, who has worked at the North Road home since it opened in 2007.

“All of our residents and their families are so excited, along with all of the staff.

“We are really looking forward to it. The whole place has been revamped and a lot of money has been spent on it.”

All of the bedrooms and communal areas have been redecorated, complete with new floors and carpets, and a new fire alarm system has been fitted.

“Chevington House was an old house which was converted into a care home, but this is purpose-built so it’s going to be far better for our residents,” Karen added.

CQC inspectors rated Chevington as requiring improvement in February 2020, but praised staff and the improvements they had made to take the home out of special measures.
