Closure of The Chequered Skipper in Ashton near Oundle

Bar staff called last orders and the final pints were pulled as a village restaurant closed its doors.

The team at The Chequered Skipper in Ashton, near Oundle, announced the news of the pub's immediate closure on Tuesday (March 21) via a post on social media.

Staff said it was with 'deepest regret and a heavy heart' that the pub was closing and thanked customers for their support.

In the social media post the pub managers explained the reason for the closure, writing: "Unfortunately after four months of correspondence with the current landlord and owner, we have been unsuccessful with our bid for the take over of the lease from the previous tenant.

"That tenant has given notice and we have no other option than to close the doors."
