John Brooks and Laura Croft, who both work at Waitrose and Partners in Stamford, write books

Two supermarket staff have each penned a book.

Stamford Waitrose and Partners staff, John Brooks and Laura Croft, shared their experiences of getting a book published together while working at the supermarket in West Street.

John, 64, who is originally from Essex but has lived in Stamford for about 22 years, said: “Laura’s book is a totally different genre but it’s been good to have someone like her around as we were going through the publishing process at the same time.”

John wrote Raft for Life, which is an anthology of poems and personal experiences, while Laura wrote Occult, a fantasy adventure story following four boys who go to a mystical and magical academy.

John attended art school and worked in the wine trade around East Anglia, which he said has shaped his ideas for the book.

He added: “It was very enjoyable to write and cathartic in that I had all this poetry and words of wisdom in my head which has stayed with me throughout my life.

“I then strung it all it all together under one umbrella and that where I came up with the metaphor a Raft for Life’.”

Laura, 34, from West Pinchbeck, who has worked at the store for 14 years, added: “We were just keeping each other updated with how things were going.

“I’ve always been interested in fantasy and adventure stories so I just wanted to write a book based on my interests
really.”

Both books can be purchased from Amazon.
