Comedian Michael McIntyre tells sold-out crowd at Stamford Corn Exchange that town is "heaven"
Comedian Michael McIntyre professed his love for Stamford during a sold-out gig at Stamford Corn Exchange tonight (Monday, November 25).
The comedy superstar, who became the fastest selling act for the Broad Street venue when his show went on sale just a week ago, described Stamford as "like heaven" in a show that lasted an hour and 25-minutes.
McIntyre told the 400-strong crowd that he was preparing for four shows in Norway as part of his Big World Tour, having been forced to cancel his run in the country earlier this year due to flu.
As he relayed how much he loved the stone buildings in Stamford and the town's newly-turned on Christmas lights, he got a huge cheer and round of applause. He endeared himself further to the audience by commenting "you're such a nice people", adding: "It could have gone either way" - a reference to the show being a last-minute gig.
McIntyre also praised the "wonderful venue" querying whether a volunteer was doubling up as security.
He said the next time he returned to Stamford, he'd bring enough carpet to cover the venue's floors fully, describing it as "only 98 per cent covered".
And despite not knowing where in the country Stamford was - "Leicester's near here right?" - at the close of the show, he said to thunderous applause: "I love Stamford - I'll probably end up moving here."
Stamford Corn Exchange still has a number of comedy shows on sale, including Joel Dommett, currently appearing on ITV's I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here's spin-off show Extra Camp and Phil Wang.
