Community hub opens in Bourne
A community hub has opened in Bourne.
In June, Glenn and Emma Vaughan took on the lease of 1 Hub Bourne in Queen’s Road with plans to turn it into a focal point in the community.
“We are hoping to create a place for people to go, from toddlers groups to 70 or 80 year olds script writing,” said Glenn.
“It is a hub for the area and people can do a number of activities.
“We just want to create a friendly and safe place to go - there will always be someone there.”
Glenn, who runs a one-touch football school, has already held a number of activity weeks throughout the summer including multi-sports, dance and drama and football.
“It’s been really well supported,” he said.
“The interest for September has taken over my life, it’s been very hectic.
“It’s got a little buzz feel to it even though it’s probably the quietest time in August with people being away.
“September will be absolutely mayhem but I’m excited.”
As children return to school in September a youth club is set to be launched at 1 Hub Bourne, with groups for ages five to 11 and 12 to 17.
Glenn hopes this will keep older children off the street and prevent trouble in the town.
“Nowadays things are a lot more accessible than they were 10 or even five years ago,” he said. “I want to try given them that safe space to go to on a Friday.”
